- PRESS RELEASE
The industrial renovation of Qatar is happening apace, thanks to a government dedicated to supporting it, Mohammed Saleh Al Sada, Minister of State for Energy and Industrial Affairs, said in an exclusive interview with The Report: Emerging Qatar 2007, the prestigious publication from the UK-based publishing, research and consultancy services organization Oxford Business Group (OBG).
"The challenge is to exploit these resources in a sustainable manner on a long-term basis," he said. "For that purpose, Qatar has entered into partnerships with major international oil companies. Many countries and international companies are in a position to provide the needed technical support.
"In the same manner that we select the best and most economic technology, we also select the party which provides the best technical support. In many cases, providing technical support is part of the technology package deal."
Mr. Al Sada told the publication, rated as the premier foreign direct investment guide to Qatar's vibrant economy: "Education resources are being set up in collaboration with the best universities in the world, including Texas A&M, Carnegie Mellon, Weill Cornell and Virginia Commonwealth, which are hosted at the Education City of Qatar Foundation. Here students can learn the latest technologies and at the same time acquire independent thinking to help adapt the society to the requirements of the future.
"Qatar has also encouraged its international partners to establish research centres to address local problems, as well as benefit from opportunities.
"The Qatar Science and Technology Park is attracting investment from major companies and the government is dedicated to supporting its development and play an important role in providing technological and environmental solutions."
He added: "The gas industry in Qatar has developed in the last ten years in an unprecedented manner. Qatar Petroleum (QP) has made long-term gas supply commitments to customers in all parts of the globe. At the same time, local demand for gas has increased very rapidly, driven by the economic and social growth of the country. It became crucial to progress the development of new projects in a manner that is consistent with QP's North Field development strategy."
