The application for this code was made as the current '050' code is nearing the limit of numbers that can be issued, and customer demand has necessitated the introduction of a new mobile number series.
Ahmed Abdulkarim Julfar, Chief Operating Officer, Etisalat, said: 'The '050' prefix, which we have been using ever since we introduced the GSM mobile service in the UAE in 1994, is reaching its maximum capacity, and we are very excited about the introduction of a new mobile code. This will enable us to reach out to our customers with renewed strength, and identify many new opportunities for expansion, development and success. We see '0566' as our new platform to reach out to customers across the nation, and conduct even more promotions and campaigns that will support the growth in the telecoms sector.'
'In spite of an already-high GSM penetration rate, we still believe that there is significant room for growth as the UAE itself is seeing immense growth and economic development. This growth and development is attracting companies and people to the UAE, thereby also growing the addressable market for telecoms services. This is why we see it as important that '056' be brought to market as early as possible', he added.
Al Haddad added: 'The launch of a new series of mobile numbers with a new prefix is also a good opportunity for us to introduce new pricing plans, which we are sure will go a long way in satisfying our customers' needs.'
Etisalat has already achieved the highest mobile penetration in the world, serving 6.3 million customers or 150% of the population of the UAE. It is also the only operator to cover the entire nation with a 2G network, and 97% of the populated areas with its 3G and 3.5G network.
Launch of '0566' number range for Etisalat mobiles
Etisalat, the Best Overall Telecom Operator of the year 2007 (Middle East), has announced that it has been allocated the mobile range '0566' by the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, and new mobile numbers in this range will be soon available to customers across the UAE.
