The project marks a new addition to the efforts of the RTA to alleviate traffic jams and boost traffic flow in the emirate of Dubai.

Engineer Maitha bin Adai, CEO of RTA Traffic & Roads Agency, stated that by opening the new Al-Saffouh Underpass, which consists of two lanes at each direction extending 535 meters linking the Knowledge Village with Umm Suqeim, RTA has completed roads network renovation project at Al-Saffouh area. It is anticipated that the project would result in smooth traffic flow in that vial area, particularly after opening the new bridge flying over Sheik Zayed Road consisting of two lanes in each direction linking Al-Barsha with Al-Saffouh in November 2007.

"The significance of the project is that Al-Saffouh area is considered among the vital zones in Dubai, as it involves a number of modern property developments. This was the underlying factor for upgrading roads network, conducting necessary renovations, and providing alternative routes for inhabitants during construction of the projects so as to reduce traffic volumes in a way compatible with the nature of development witnessed in each area of the emirate of Dubai" said Maitha.

She pointed out that RTA efforts are gathering momentum to implement a number of projects of upgrading & widening main & arterial roads in the emirate of Dubai. This is envisaged as part of integrated road expansion projects within the framework of RTA strategy to minimize traffic jam problems, provide advanced services at residential areas, respond to the requirements of demographic growth & urban expansion, and provide practical & comprehensive solutions to ensure traffic flow and realize the vision of the RTA of providing "safe & smooth transport for all" in the emirate.
