  • PRESS RELEASE

Highlighting its commitment to Environment and Safety, ENOC recently hosted the First Marine Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Conference in Dubai on November 29th 2007 at the Movenpick Hotel, Dubai, UAE.

Attended by over 90 people, the conference was held this year and for the first time to highlight the best practice industry marine operations and focused mainly on quality assurance of marine operations and vessels. This was done in a conference in which the theme was ship vetting systems. The aim was to create awareness about ENOC's initiatives in this critical EHS field.

Key speakers at this year's event included speakers from British Petroleum (BP) who presented on the initiatives of the Oil Companies Marine International Forum (OCIMF) as well as Shell from the UK vetting Operations, Horizon Terminals Ltd, Eppco International Ltd, Port of Fujairah, Gulf Energy Maritime (GEM) as well as presentation for the ENOC Group EHSQ Compliance Department.

Welcoming attendees to the conference, Yusr H. Sultan, CEO, Terminals, Shipping and LPG, ENOC reiterated ENOC's leadership position in developing and implementing world-class EHS management systems. "Being an international oil and gas company, ENOC has continued to grow in both size and diversity. We are keen on developing and growing in a safe and environmentally sustainable manner, wherever operated in the world."

"ENOC recognises the need for collective effort in addressing Marine EHS issues. That is why in 2002, the ENOC EHS Marine Committee was set up to develop policies and guidelines to help steer the practices and develop the Marine EHS Quality Assurance System which it enjoys today."

"ENOC believes that the marine EHS performance is a partnership between those representing the various parts of the supply chain and therefore we have run this conference with our esteemed partners and sponsors to build awareness and discuss how we can all contribute to enhancing our operations and controlling EHS accidents."

The conference was held under the theme "controlling the controllable" to defy the myth that marine incidents are difficult to control and prevent. The main aim behind this conference was to raise awareness and come up with ways to help enhance the marine operations and control EHS incidents. Delegates from the UAE, the Gulf region as well as internationally from Greece, Singapore, the United Kingdom as well as Djibouti and other parts of the world participated in this conference.

ENOC's EHS committee comprises representatives from all parts of the business including trading, chartering, terminalling, shipping, with EHS becoming an essential ingredient to marine risk control and loss prevention mechanism. The committee activities and collective effort have helped in the fast and effective development of loss prevention strategies in both the UAE operations and now the international operations of the Group.

The Marine EHS Section, Group EHSQ Compliance Department which lead this event undertakes many activities including ship vetting, inspections, training, awareness campaigns, on-board audits and development as well as both ship and shore Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Assurance Audits.
