KSA pursues gradual water privatisation
- Saudi Arabia: Monday, December 10 - 2007 at 14:05
Saudi Arabia will proceed gradually with its long-term plan to privatise the kingdom's water production and sewage treatment system, Saudi Arabia's Deputy Water & Electricity Minister Loay al-Musallam told MEED's Wastewater Treatment & Reuse 2007 conference in Abu Dhabi today. "The transition period will take five to six years," Al-Musallam said.
The privatisation will begin in Riyadh, Jeddah, Medina and the Al-Khobar/Dammam conurbation.
"The privatisations here will cover a total population of 10 million people," Al-Musallam said. "After the success in these cities, we will be able to expand the transformation to other parts of the kingdom.
"I would like to adopt a gradual privatisation so we can learn more about the process," he added.
