Phase 1 of the 300,000 cubic-metre-day sewage treatment plant being built in the Jebel Ali area is due to be commissioned in 2010, head of sewage treatment plants in Dubai Municipality Aisha al-Abdooli told MEED's Wastewater Treatment & Reuse 2007 conference in Abu Dhabi.

This will be Dubai's second plant and will complement the existing unit at Al-Aweer, which is now operating at almost twice its initial 260,000 cubic-metre-day capacity, Al-Abdooli said.

"Once we have commissioned the Jebel Ali plant, we will have peace of mind because the flow will be distributed between the new unit and Al-Aweer," she added.
