This will supplement the second expansion of 65,000 cubic metres a day, which is due to be commissioned in January 2008, she said.

The existing Al-Aweer sewage treatment plant, the sole unit operated by Dubai Municipality, has design capacity of 260,000 cubic metres a day but was dealing in December with daily flows of almost 500,000 cubic metres a day, Al-Abdooli said.
