RTA to open four lanes of new Al Garhoud Bridge

H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board & Executive Director of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), announced the partial opening of the New Al Garhoud Bridge on 15th December 2007.
This partial opening of the new Al Garhoud Bridge marks the celebrations of Eid Al Adha holiday, May Allah mark the occasion with blessings and prosperity to our wise leadership, citizens & residents of the UAE, and the whole Arabic and Islamic worlds.
"Traffic diverted to the new Al Garhoud Bridge will break up at the end of the bridge into three lanes bound to Al Qusais and Sharjah, and the remaining lane will lead to four lanes, two of which will lead to Al Rebat Road outbound to Al Rashidiya and Nad Al Hummar, and the other two lanes to Casablanca Road outbound to Dubai International Airport," revealed Al Tayer.
H.E. the Chairman & ED of the RTA explained that construction of the new Al Garhoud Bridge made substantial progress and now entered the concluding stages. "The bridge, which will be opened in March 2008, consists of 14 lanes, 7 lanes for traffic bound from Bur Dubai to Deira, and 7 lanes for traffic from Deira heading to Bur Dubai," said Al Tayer. He added that the bridge rises 15 meters above the water level at the central part of Dubai Creek, accordingly enabling free shipping navigation without having to provide the bridge with a movable part for opening and closing.
He further added that the new Al Garhoud Bridge has been designed at the latest architectural designs and will add to the list of premier development projects in the area. It consists of distinctively beautiful piles and arches adding aesthetic architectural touches to the Crossing.
It is also provided with a 3-meter wide foot path along with nicely designed lighting poles, where due attention has been made to serve commercial ads. The piles have state of the art design enabling display of traditional and eye-catching images in addition to providing the highest levels of traffic safety.
