Mohammed Al Muallem, Managing Director of DP World UAE region, said:
"The e-token system will increase productivity, efficiency and provide more accurate planning and scheduling. This service is part of our commitment to continuously improve processes and enhance the overall service offering for our customers. On the ground, this system will also allow for a controlled flow of parking and traffic within the port."
Aimed to prevent potential bottlenecks within the port, the e-token process will minimise waiting time and ease the flow of container traffic. The online process is user friendly and enables customers to directly proceed to the terminal without queuing up at the Documentation Office. The advance booking will assist haulers and traders to pre-plan and utilise their resources better.
The current practice of issuing token slips through DP World Documentation counters will gradually be phased out and be replaced by the e-token process.
As part of its outreach to customers, DP World UAE region will conduct training sessions on the new system. A telephone helpline and an online assistance portal have been set up to facilitate the use of the new initiative.
DP World UAE region is the 8th largest container terminal in the world. In 2006, the company saw a 17 per cent growth in annual shipping throughput to 8.92 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). With the opening of the new terminal in Jebel Ali, the port's total handling capacity has increased by two million TEUs, to reach 11 million TEUs.
