EDC expert spells out nuts-and-bolts of Jordan-Canada business

The Jordanian-Canadian Business Association invited Mr Burak Aktas, Regional Manager, South East Europe and the Baltics of the Export Development Canada (EDC) for a luncheon presentation at the King Hussein Club in Amman on 11 December, 2007.

Mr Aktas talked about the role of the EDC in encouraging exports of Canadian businesses around the world by establishing two-way trade relationships between Canadian companies and establishments in different parts of the world including Jordan.

Speaking to Jordanian businessmen from across different economic sectors, Mr Aktas highlighted some of the innovative approaches the EDC is taking in helping to create joint ventures between private sector firms in 200 countries around the world.

Specifically, the Canadian expert talked the EDC experience in encouraging the growth of small and medium-sized companies and the held they can receive through the EDC, concentrating on issues in the field of banking, insurance, financing, bonding, customer credit and claims which inevitably come up and have to be dealt with when one is involved in exporting from one country to another.

Attendees listened, discussed and engaged with Mr Aktas about the mechanisms presented by the EDC to generate business across the Atlantic and how Exports Development Canada can serve as a conduit to help businesses from across the Atlantic to get hitched.

"JOCABA business members as well as non-members, specifically those interested in establishing business relations with their Canadian counterparts attended the presentation luncheon and discussed opportunities talked about by Mr Aktas and how the EDC helps to bring businessmen together," says JOCABA President Mazen Kawar.

The presentation was in cooperation with the Canadian Embassy in Amman that is very keen to stress private sector cooperation between the two countries, and by inviting Mr Aktas Mr Kawar felt it would give JOCABA members and Jordanian businesses a unique added value.
