RAK, Armenia discuss closer business ties

H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, today held talks with Armenian President, Robert Kocharian, who is currently on a state visit to the UAE, at the Al Dhait Palace here.

During the meeting both leaders held wide- ranging discussions on expanding bilateral relations, opening new areas of cooperation and activating a strategic partnership for closer business and trade ties.

Sheikh Saud welcomed the President and expressed hope that the visit would open up new avenues of cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and Ras Al Khaimah, especially in economic, energy, tourism and other sectors.

The Armenian President was accompanied by a high level delegation comprising Foreign Minister, Vartan Oskanian, Minister of Trade and Economic Development, Nerses Yeritsian, Head of the President's Staff, Armen Gevorgian, and other top officials.

Sheikh Saud said that there has been much progress in bilateral ties between Ras Al Khaimah and Armenia recently and noted, "RAK Government attaches great importance to developing economic and trade relations with Armenia. The two economies could become highly complementary to each other and hold great potential for joint initiatives across various sectors."

Outlining the current developmental initiatives in Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikh Saud said that the emirate has embarked on a comprehensive development plan which would enable Ras Al Khaimah to attain rapid and sustainable growth in all sectors.

"The developmental plan currently under implementation in the emirate would see massive infrastructure upgrades, development of several industrial zones, mega tourism developments and creation of world- class logistic facilities," he added.

Robert Kocharian said that he was very glad to visit UAE and particularly the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and said that he look forward to having closer business ties between the two countries.
Lauding the economic development taking place in country, he said, "The economic development taking place in the UAE is sure to stimulate greater bilateral cooperation between Armenia and UAE."

The dignitaries who attended the meeting included Sheikh Omar bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Ruler's Private Affairs Department, Sheikh Faisal bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Finance Department and RAK Free Trade Zone, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Customs and Ports Department, Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Kayed Al Qasimi, Advisor to RAK Ruler, Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Civil Aviation, Sheikh Mohammed bin Kayed Al Qasimi, Vice Chairman of RAK Economic Development Department, other sheikhs and heads of local departments.
Shaikh Saud hosted a luncheon in honour of the Armenian President and his accompanying delegation.
