The election took place during the closing session of the Organization's annual conference held under the patronage of the Yemeni President, Ali Abdullah Saleh. The Committee is formed of nine academics from different Arab universities and research centres.

The Conference convened from 30th Nov to 2 December 2007, and was opened by the Yemeni Prime Minister - Dr Ali Majour. In attendance was the Organization's General Assembly consisting of 500 representatives of Arab universities and institutes. Conference deliberations tackled a diverse spectrum of subjects revolving around 'the role of political and social upbringing in enhancing populous participation, and the role of political parties and the civic society in the support of democratic transformation.'

"The Arab Political Sciences Organization mission is to encourage and rehabilitate Arab researchers, to prompt an increased level of awareness and standards of political sciences endeavours in the Arab World. This target is reached through encouraging interaction and understanding amongst circles of interested and operating people in the field of political sciences, as well as linking rehabilitation to the needs of Arab societies," said Dr Adwan.

Additional to his post as Dean of Al Quds College, Dr Adwan lectures in a number of universities in Jordan, and has conducted numerous researches in the field of Political Sciences, Education and Administration, as well as presenting research papers in various conferences and seminars in Arab and international academic institutions.

The Conference this year has been held amidst official political and intellectual Arab interest in the role the Organization has been undertaking upon itself. The Organization translated its endeavours, through conferences and seminars, as well as efforts it rendered to encourage and enhance the work of researchers in different political science fields, such as democracy and human rights.
