International auditing body Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) as compliant with the standard.
Mohammed Al Muallem, Head of the UAE Region, said:
"This is a significant achievement for our Jebel Ali terminal, which is a crucial hub for the Middle East. The ISO/PAS 28000:2007 is a rigorous international standard for security, and our customers are the beneficiaries of consistent security standards and constant reviews of security procedures. We regard security as a baseline service we provide to our customers."
Jebel Ali joins a growing list of certified DP World terminals. DP World's Southampton terminal in the UK was most recently certified last month, and DP World Vancouver, Canada, and DP World Caucedo, Dominican Republic were certified earlier this year. Both DP World's corporate head office in Dubai, UAE, and pilot site, DP World Djibouti, were the first sites to be certified in September last year.
DP World's investment in the ISO security management system has been recognised by the US Customs Border Protection agency, which has invited DP World to join their Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) programme. DP World is the only global marine terminal operator to have achieved ISO 28000 certification and simultaneous membership of C-TPAT. The independently audited standard is currently being rolled out through the company's network of 42 terminals.
DP World's adoption and global implementation of the ISO/PAS 28000:2007 standard means that its network of terminals will have the ability to effectively implement mechanisms and processes to address security vulnerabilities at strategic and operational levels, as well as establish preventive action plans. All terminals will also be required to continually assess security measurements in place to both protect its business interests and ensure compliance with international regulatory requirements. The standard complements all international security legislative codes DP World already conforms to at its terminals.
