For over a billion people throughout the world, Ramadan is a time for inner reflection and self-control. In addition, it is a time to devote care to family and friends as well as to offer assistance to the less fortunate.

This September, Nokia launched a special occasions campaign for the second consecutive year. Keeping in line with the tradition of the month, the campaign highlighted the theme of 'giving' through a uniquely created microsite (separate for English and Arabic) with UNICEF, for online donations. The microsite had several interactive elements including donating online, downloading of Islamic applications and ringtones, customizing e-cards, and participating in an online competition.

Running from September 21 to October 22, across the Middle East, the microsite had a large number of visitors. Many did more than just visit the microsite. They either made a donation, downloaded applications or ringtones, sent e-cards, or took part in the online competition. In addition to this encouraging response, Nokia is also donating USD 50,000 to UNICEF as part of its commitment to Ramadan. The donation will enable UNICEF to provide basic education, health, and other much-needed welfare services for children in underdeveloped countries.

The campaign also promoted exclusive Islamic software like Islamic Organizer, Hajj & Omra guide, Ramadan Greeting Cards and Azkar, among many others. The devices pre-loaded with these applications were Nokia 3110 Classic, Nokia 6120 Classic, Nokia 6300, Nokia N73 Special Edition (created especially for the GCC during this period), Nokia N95, Nokia E61i, Nokia E65, and Nokia E90 Communicator.

Nokia is committed to having a positive impact on society that extends beyond the advanced technology, products and services it creates. It has invested in community projects supporting empowerment and education of young people in 30 countries, benefiting more than 1 million young people. Nokia is also supporting innovative technology projects designed to bridge the digital divide and bring the benefits of mobile technology to communities around the world.
