DMC Environmental Club participates in clean up day
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, December 30 - 2007 at 13:51
- PRESS RELEASE
Last week, the founder members of Dubai Men's College Environmental Club joined forces with thousands of other like-minded people in the Emirates Environment Group's annual 'Clean Up the UAE' day, with the backing of our Director, Dr Philip Hicks.
The activity got underway after a stirring performance by one of the police pipe bands and a ceremonial start of the 'Clean Up the UAE' flag. Split into four large groups comprised of people of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds, each participant was given a glove to pick up the rubbish and a bag to put it in.
After little more than an hour, each group had amassed an impressive collection of garbage including discarded bottles, plastic, rope, barbed wire and even a huge tractor tyre. This vast collection was a sad indictment on the carelessness of some of our fellow human beings and their scant regard for the environment. Nevertheless, with the kind winter sun warming our backs and the beauty of the environment despite it being disfigured by rubbish, people had a wonderful time and returned to college satisfied that they had participated in a very worthwhile event and determined to raise awareness of it among staff and students.
