EAD celebrates its journey to excellence

The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD), declared its commitment to implement the Abu Dhabi Environment Strategy 2008-2012 in a ceremony held to celebrate being awarded a certificate for achieving the 4th highest score out of a total of 22 organizations, during the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance (ADAEP).
H. E. Majid Al Mansouri, EAD Secretary General said in his opening speech "This strategy emanates from the Abu Dhabi Government strategic direction towards the Emirate of Abu Dhabi's Policy Agenda of 2007-2008 as well as our mission of "Protecting and conserving the environment for people's well being and a better life for all".
He added that the Strategy, for the next five years, focuses on 10 strategic priority areas including Environment Sustainability, Water Resources Management, Air Quality, Hazardous Materials and Waste Management, Biodiversity Management, Environmental Awareness, Environment Health and Safety Management System,, Organization Efficiency, Emergency Management and Environmental Information System.
"With the announcement of this strategy, our responsibilities grow towards planning, development and implementation. Experience has shown that many institutions fail to implement their strategies due to interdependence and lack of cooperation between the various members of the strategic decision" Al Mansouri said.
He added "We are aiming to reach to broader prospects in environmental endeavors together with our partners in the public, private and civil society institutions. This is in order to realize the vision of the Government of Abu Dhabi to be among the top five governments in the world, through adopting the principles of total quality and building a culture of excellence."
"Since the beginning, our main goal of participating in the ADAEP programme went far beyond winning a prize. We aimed at building platforms for quality and excellence in business means to improve performance. We are very proud of the recognition of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, during the ADAEP closing ceremony," he added.
In conclusion, Al Mansouri extended his gratitude and appreciation to Abu Dhabi Government for their continued support which enabled the Agency to achieve this success. He also thanked the Secretariat of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council for initiating and organizing the ADAEP programme. In addition, he thanked EAD staff for their sincere efforts in helping to protect the environment and collaborating with the community.
At the end of the ceremony, EAD staff signed the 'EAD Strategy Commitment Statement,' developed for the occasion, lending their support to ensuring it becomes a reality.
