Javna restructures salaries, introduces cost of living allowance

In line with the Jordanian government's approach and the national campaign it launched to raise the salaries of public and private sector employees, Javna's board decided a 9% raise for all its employees, to be dispensed on an annual basis as a cost of living allowance.

Javna, the leading Arab company specialized in electronic solutions and wireless applications, promised to double this raise in February, when the board is expected to endorse the annual salary raise, which stood last year at an average of 35 percent.

Javna's CEO Mansour Mansour hailed the board's decisions, which, he said, underlined the company's care about the welfare of its human resources and keenness to keep its staff.

He said: "The raise is a first step to improve the income of employees. It will be followed by other measures aimed to ensure Javna's personnel and their families a decent living."

Mansour urged private sector companies, in general, and those working in the telecom field, in particular, to revisit their pay system with a view to improve the living conditions of their employees so as to prevent the immigration of qualified Jordanians as a result of the current economic conditions.

For his part, Javna's Director of Human Resources Development Emad Bahsh warned against the consequences of the hike in the prices of commodities and inflation, coupled with relatively low wages.

Bahsh called on telecom and IT companies to retain innovative Jordanian workers in the field before they find themselves forced to look for jobs abroad.

Bahsh stressed the need to intensify corporate investments in human resources and rehabilitation programs so as to prepare them for the coming era, highlighting the importance of bonuses and fringe benefits in ensuring job security on the one hand and triggering innovation as the case is in major international companies, on the other.
