- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, January 15 - 2008 at 14:05
- PRESS RELEASE
Six ground-breaking retail formats from across the Globe have been unveiled as the shortlisted candidates for the prestigious Innovative Format of the Year accolade at the World Retail Awards 2008.
The shortlisted candidates will now be reviewed at the World Retail Congress in Barcelona (9-11 April) by a Grand Jury comprising many of the world's most respected retailers and retail industry experts. The overall winner will subsequently be announced at a gala dinner held during the event at the MNAC (Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya).
Developing new formats that capture the customer's business and their imagination is at the very heart of retail. In selecting the six finalists for the Fawaz Alkohair-sponsored category, the panel looked for new formats from retailers, both new and established, that broke new ground in terms of their development and subsequent commercial success.
The World Retail Awards Grand Jury includes representatives from a wide range of retailer sectors around the World, such as Lucy Neville-Rolfe, Tesco; Bernie Brookes, Myer; Duncan Angove, Oracle Retail; Paul R Charron, Liz Claiborne; Rick Darling, Li & Fung USA; Ravi Dahr, Yale Center for Customer Insights; Wu Jianzhong, Wumart Group; Dr Lev Khasis, X5 Retail Group; Richard Simonin, Etam; Simon Susman, Woolworths; Marty Wikstrom, Atelier Management LLC; David Bosshart, Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute; Bjarne Mumm, Åhléns Group AB; Philippe Giard, ParknShop.
Building on the enormous impact of the accolades presented in 2007, the awards promise to become one of the most significant dates in the global retail calendar, and are designed to highlight and reward excellence across the key areas of retail skills and operations. In addition to Innovative Format of the Year, awards will be presented in the following eight categories:
· Emerging Market Retailer of the Year
· Retail Destination of the Year
· Marketing Campaign of the Year, sponsored by Fujitsu
· Responsible Retailer of the Year
· Employer of the Year[1]
· E-tailer of the Year[1]
