German sharp-shooter Kaymer goes top of leaderboard
- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, January 17 - 2008 at 19:22
- PRESS RELEASE
Rising star Martin Kaymer - 2007's European PGA Tour Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year - produced a magnificent 66 on his UAE capital debut to knock early pacesetter Henrik Stenson off his perch at the top of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship leader-board.
"There are lots of good holes with some very tough par threes where you need to hit accurate shots. There are no holes I didn't like today...I played very well and made some good putts," said Kaymer.
"It was very windy but I started well. I hit a really good drive on 10, then a rescue club into the green which finished about two metres from the pin, and I made the putt.
Defying his years, Kaymer said the pressure had not fazed him.
"I felt the pressure but in a positive way - I'm really relaxed. My goal was to make the cut and I was a little nervous. Before my round I was wondering how Henrik had got round so well, and now I know!"
