Bassil is to replace previous GM, Mr. Mohammad Shabib, who has moved to mother company 'ZAIN' (previously MTC) in its new headquarters in Bahrain as Group Chief Regulatory Officer.
Newly appointed GM, Mr. Claude Bassil enjoys an extensive 18 years of experience in the Telecom and IT sector, handling key positions in renowned international telecom groups such as FTML (Cellis), France Telecom - Lebanon where he occupied the position of Assistant Marketing Director, Head of Products & Services and Vodafone Group Worldwide where he alternated crucial posts starting with Marketing Project Manager at Eircell - currently Vodafone Ireland. Later, Bassil moved to Romania as the IT and Marketing Project Director in the Mobifon SA startup, before heading to Egypt to act as Principle Consultant and Project Manager in systems integration at one of the Group's subsidiaries. Bassil was then assigned at Vodafone Hungary where he was named Principle Consultant and Solution Architect. His last experience with the Group moved him to Kenya as the Billing Manager and Principle Consultant assisting the CEO in the startup operations in Safaricom Ltd-Kenya.
In 2001, Bassil's career path took him back to Cairo where he joined Orascom Telecom as Group IT Director, providing valuable assistance in two of their GSM startup operations, Sabafone in Yemen and OT-Tunisia. Two years later, Claude joined MTC-Vodafone Bahrain, thus becoming a member of the ZAIN family (previously MTC) and acting as the Senior Billing and Settlement Manager, before handling the Chief Information Officer (CIO) tasks then shortly after the Chief Commercial Officer tasks.
On the occasion of his appointment as General Manager at mtc touch, Bassil said: 'the new responsibility bestowed to me is crucial and highly delicate, especially in reference to the critical conditions of the Lebanese telecom sector. Due to its international exposure and wide expertise, mtc touch has invested great efforts in leveraging the telecom services in the country and has efficiently and actively contributed to its development'. He added: 'I look to the future with confidence, seeking to successfully complete my mission. I am fortunately endorsed by the solid basis established by my predecessor and friend Mr. Mohammad Shabib, and the assistance and know-how of the mtc touch staff members who have so far excelled in their performance, enabling us to remain in the leadership and always willing to improve the telecom sector in Lebanon'.
