- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, January 24 - 2008 at 16:17
- PRESS RELEASE
The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) is participating in the 40th Cairo International Book Fair from January 23-February 4, 2008, organized by the General Egyptian Book Organization.
Among the more recent publications is the Arabic translation of the English-language title Current Transformations and their Potential Role in Realizing Change in the Arab World—a compilation of conference presentations that discuss Arab political developments and their impact on reform, and investigate the dynamics, complexities and obstacles involved in spreading democracy in the Arab World.
The book also examines the role of Arab political institutions, the influence of non-governmental organizations in furthering change and progress, and the role played by the forces of political Islam in the process of transformation. Other matters closely related to the issue of modernization in Arab countries are also discussed, including the importance of education as a basis for change and the potential role of Arab women in the field of development.
Thus, the book contributes to the growing internal discussion on the issues of change, reform and modernization, which will shape the form and future of communities in the Arab World.
Other ECSSR publications include a range of scholarly, refereed studies in Arabic and English which explore and analyze various strategic, political, economic and social issues relevant to the United Arab Emirates, the GCC countries, and the Arab World in general.
Recent titles include: Iraq's Informal Economy: Reflections of War, Sanctions and Policy Failure; Arabic Language and Culture Amid the Demands of Globalization; and Iran: The Case for Détente.
ECSSR publications attract widespread interest from intellectuals, scholars and professional researchers worldwide and enjoy a broad domestic, pan-Arab and global readership.
