ADWC hosts the 8th National Conference of AIESEC UAE
- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, January 24 - 2008 at 11:39
- PRESS RELEASE
Abu Dhabi Women's College will host the 8th National Conference of AIESEC UAE from 24th to 26th January, on the ADWC campus.
AIESEC signed an MOU with the Higher Colleges of Technology in November 2007 in order to increase the number of global opportunities for all HCT students. The AIESEC office, located in the Student Support Centre on the ADWC campus, enables the most proactive students to develop leadership skills and cultivate self-awareness through goal-setting.
"Having our local chapter in Abu Dhabi has been an exciting and challenging task for AIESEC UAE," noted Stella Grancheva, President of AIESEC UAE. "Seeing the commitment of these young women to organise and host the 8th National Conference of AIESEC UAE gives me hope and belief in the relevance of our activities for the students here. It is the drive and willingness to be the best and to have the perfect conference that makes this event special for my members. I am proud to see how the students from Abu Dhabi and Dubai are coming together, bridging the gap between cultures and backgrounds, and taking responsibility towards a better future for their country."
The theme for this year's conference is "Activating Leadership Through Taking Responsibility." The event brings together the most industrious students from ADWC and other HCT campuses, along with students from Zayed University, UAEU and other universities throughout the UAE. The students will attend workshops on topics such as "Leadership Development," "Self-Management," "Communication and Feedback" and "Team Management". In addition, representatives from the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the LEAD Program of ALDAR, and Microsoft will attend the conference and meet with students to discuss leadership opportunities within those organisations.
"We are pleased and honored to host the AIESEC Conference on the ADWC campus," said Dr. Brad Cook, Director of ADWC. "Partnering with AIESEC has helped to bolster our strategic goal of being recognised as a premier institution for the development of women and leadership in the UAE. The 8th National AIESEC UAE Conference has helped to build competencies and skills that enable our students to overcome pressing challenges taking place at the national, regional and global levels. This kind of conference supports young women's capabilities to articulate their own visions and provides space to network, share knowledge and information, and learn from the best practices and life experiences of other proven leaders."
