Flying a pair of 1940s Boeing Stearman biplanes, the two-man, two-woman team Wingwalker outfit entertained the Al Ain crowds with a thrilling display of loops, rolls and low-level flypasts.

With daredevil duo Daniella Hughes and Sarah Tanner standing atop the Stearmans’ upper wings, the Guinot Wingwalkers revealed they will be performing a stunning new trick at this year’s Al Ain showcase for the first time out of practice.

“The Al Ain International Aerobatics Championships is very impressive and we’re thrilled to be performing. We’ve even brought in a new move which we’ll be showing off all weekend. Normally in our routine, we climb down in between the wing and the cockpit and strike a pose, but our new move - ‘The Spirit of Ecstacy’ - sees Sarah and I lean over the leading edge of our plane’s fuel tanks, stretch out and wave to the crowd,” said Wingwalker Hughes.

“The Al Ain crowds will be the first in the world to see the new move and we’re hoping they love it,” added Tanner.

After the team’s first performance of the day, Team Guinot pilot, Martyn Carrington, described the feeling of having someone literally ride the wings of his plane, “It’s awesome – it certainly adds another aspect to flying.”

And on the Championship itself, Carrington added: “Al Ain is absolutely fantastic. The people are very friendly and accommodating, it’s great to see we are received as well here as we are back home.”

Jointly organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) and the UAE Air Force and Air Defence, and in conjunction with the World Air Sports Federation, the 2008 show, which is being held under the patronage of HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, will see over 110 aircrafts compete in the four-day family extravaganza.
