They discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations, and exchanged views on the labour market in the United Arab Emirates.
During the meeting they addressed the history of education in the region and noted the giant leap it has taken during the past 40 years, for the first schools established in the UAE were primitive compared to the diverse educational institutions established today, and parents were given monetary incentives encouraging them to enroll their children to receive free education.
'Zayed University's aim since it's establishment in 1998 was to prepare Emirati students for a meaningful and successful personal and professional life; to graduate students who will help shape the future of the UAE and support the economic and social advancement of our country' said Dr. Sulaiman. To achieve these goals the University has developed several research programs that support the social, economic, technological, and strategic needs of the country; and initiated innovative and productive relationships with business, industry, civic organizations, other educational institutions.
'The UAE'S government has always been very keen on diversifying the local economy's dependence to include other fields to avoid limiting ourselves to growth enhanced only by natural resources such as oil while we could leap forward through developing several other sectors like tourism and medical sciences.'
He explained that 90% of the university's graduates tend to explore the labour market, while the remainder are seeking to obtain master's or doctorate certificates several international educational institutes, he also pointed out that the UAE women have become a pillars in the evolution of society, their sole motivation is to lead our nation into a successful and prosperous era, through powerful positions in the Federal National Council and various ministries, government bodies and private institutions.
He added that the university strives to provide the best educational opportunities for it's female students in addition to working closely with them to get them after graduation to ensure their future.
The meeting went on to discuss the challenges that face the country in creating dynamic business organizations committed to society and which will lead different enterprises to succeed in today's race to pioneer, H.E Antonio Peñalosa Secretary General of the International Organization of Employers went on to discuss potential areas of collaboration with Zayed University such as holding several seminars or brainstorm sessions on employment and the business society in the UAE with the students and graduates who are considered potential leaders, to develop a social sense of responsibility of giving back to their community.
He stressed on the importance of working with other organizations without overlooking problems that have evolved from health and security issues such as human trafficking and HIV in Africa. He expressed his admiration in the Emirates achievements of economic and cultural growth that have been accomplished without disregarding national issues such as human health and security and the reality of education.
Present at the meeting was Dr. David Goodwin Assistant Provost, Graduate Studies and Research and Dr. Emil Thies Assistant Dean of College of Business Sciences.
