  • PRESS RELEASE

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Industry of the United Arab Emirate, launches February 4, 2008, Dubai Industrial Investment & Partnership Forum (DIIPF).

The forum is organized by the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) in cooperation with Dubai Economic Development Department (DED) and Dubai Export Development Corporation (EDC). The three-day event comes within the framework of the efforts exerted by the organizing parties to promote industrial development process by means of utilizing the productive capacities of the industrial companies in GCC member states. It also aims at raising their efficiency and competitiveness level in view of the new global economic system and the need for providing high quality products.

Held in Dubai World Trade Center, the main objective of the DIIPF is fostering industrial cooperation amongst GCC member states by means of organizing Business-to-Business meetings, and introducing technical updates in the field of industrial subcontracting and partnership exchange (SPX).

It is arranged that Professor Nicholas Negroponte, Chairman Emeritus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, will talk in this forum about SPX system. The forum's agenda also includes a workshop on Manufacturing Investment Opportunities where 10 new industrial projects prepared by GOIC will be presented.

The event's agenda also includes bilateral meetings which directly link main contractors (Buyers) to Subcontractors (Suppliers). The organizing parties received requests for participation in those meetings from a number of large-scale companies mainly working in Gas and Oil sector in the region - amongst them is Qatar Petroleum (QP), Ras Gas, Oryx GTL, QFAC, ZADCO, DOBAL, ARAMCO, Borouge, and JASCO. As such, this forum is a good opportunity for Subcontractors (Suppliers) to contract with those large-scale companies to provide them with their services. In addition, the accompanying exhibition will provide a good opportunity to see the services and needs of the participating companies.

The Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) launched Industrial Subcontracting and Partnership Exchange (SPX) program, and organized a number of forums for the registered companies in the program which are 400 ones, amongst them is 90 Emeriti companies. It is expected that the number of Emeriti companies registered in the program increase to 490 companies by mid-2008. The contracting companies constitute 10% of the total number of registered companies, while the subcontracting companies constitute 90%.

Additionally, GOIC intends to launch a Gulf interactive portal for SPX, and providing data via this electronic portal within the coming few months, this facility will provide electronic registration; online requests for contracting companies; and introducing capacities and potentials of subcontracting companies.
