With DSF round the corner, retailers are stocking up some timeless pieces in gold jewellery which are eye-catching and versatile enough to be paired with any kind of attire.

Gold has been highly valued for thousands of years and is as popular now as it has ever been; as jewellery, a financial asset and as an industrial product. Gold jewellery represents the only consumer product where investment and adornment values meet.

The UAE gold consumption in terms of tonnage increased from 78.0 tonnes within the first three quarters of 2006 to 85.5 tonnes in the same period of 2007, contributing to a 10% increase. The UAE sales value increased from Dhs6.3bn within the first three quarters of 2006 to Dhs7.7bn in the same period of 2007, a 22.2% increase. It is evident that gold’s unique attributes have resonated with investors during this time.

Moaz Barakat – World Gold Council’s Managing Director for the Middle East Turkey and Pakistan commented: “Dubai has always been a city of opportunities and constant growth in the city’s gold trade is integral to its overall vision. The World Gold Councils participation in the previous Dubai Shopping Festival promotions have proven to be a rewarding experience. We are proud to be a part of the DSF and to share in its success. This is not possible without the support of the DSF committee.”

Mr. Barakat continued: “In addition, we would like to acknowledge the great strides the government and industry institutions have made to improve the infrastructure and provide marketing opportunities through such events as the Dubai Shopping Festival. Dubai would not have achieved the status of “Dubai, The City of Gold” without the joint efforts of the city’s jewellery sector and the Government of Dubai. The World Gold Council is encouraged to see a positive start in 2008.”

The sustained marketing efforts of the World Gold Council, the jewellery trade, the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group’s annual promotions and the continuous support of the government have played an enormous role in creating awareness of Dubai’s prestigious title as the ‘City of Gold’ locally, and internationally.

Over the years, the festival has played a very crucial role in pushing gold sales up and as promotions get better, more and more people are attracted towards the yellow metal. Another reason is that participating outlets are stocking up the latest designs in gold jewellery to attract even the most discerning connoisseur as each piece looks like a work of art. The cascading designs speak for themselves making gold look so beautiful in the shops of Dubai jewellers.

As gold jewellery is once again becoming fashionable, designers are using this noble metal in different shades and textures to create impressive pieces. Whether the customer wants a piece in various shades of gold or just in yellow, the retailers have many collections in their box this DSF to suit their taste. The sumptuous collections will also reveal a mix of classic and modern. These are beautifully crafted with attention to detail and are a must-have for any special occasion.

World Gold Council urges customers this DSF to pick up one of these unique gold creations which are worth flaunting.
