RTA awards contract of Oud Mateena 2 Roads Network Development Project at Dh850m

In a meeting chaired by H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board & Executive Director of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), the Board of Directors of the RTA awarded the contract of Oud Mateena 2 Roads Network Development Project, at a cost of Dh50m and the project is scheduled for completion within one year.

Al Tayer said that the core works under the project include construction of a road network with a total length of 3.5 km, along with development of Al-Khartoum Road and Amman Road through adding new lanes extending 5 km in total to uplift the level of service provided by these two vital roads. "Khartoum Road will be widened to four lanes in each direction, while Amman Road leading to Oud Mateena-2 will also be widened to two lanes in each direction," he stated.

H.E. Mattar Al Tayer revealed that the RTA is currently engaged in constructing local roads in various parts of the emirate at a cost of around Dh850 million and some of them are in the final stages of completion. "Upgrading roads network and road facilities in the emirate stems from the keen attention of the RTA to improve and uplift the standards of roads network and transport systems; which is part and parcel of the vision of the RTA to provide safe & smooth transport for all, and cater for the requirements of demographic & urban expansion in the emirate" said Al Tayer.

He pointed out that roads network are among the vital ingredients of infrastructure necessary to boost economic, industrial and service development in each country. In fact they are a benchmark of economic, industrial and service development, considering the multiple benefits provided with regard to facilitating mobility of individuals, and shipment of cargos.

He added that the RTA has completed construction of roads & pavements at Jumeirah-2 at a cost of Dh75 million. The Project included construction of three new local roads and a public car-park, transforming Al Uruba Road into a two-way road, and constructing pedestrian paths. The project also included construction of pavements, rainwater & irrigation water drainage network, lighting poles, and traffic signals at the intersection of Al Uruba & Al Wasl Roads.

"Work has reached concluding stages in South of Al Barsha Leveling and Road Construction Project, with a completion rate of 92% so far. The project, which costs about Dh110 million, includes leveling works of 553 hectares of land, constructing a road extending 58 km, and four light signal-controlled intersections three of which are on the existing roads; which are being widened as part of the project. The project also includes lighting works of asphalt-paved roads, installing the hanging and land road markings, and constructing road crossings for various future utility lines.

Al Tayer further stated that completion rate of Al Qusais Roads Development project, which costs about Dh43 million, exceeded 85%. They include construction of new roads, six roundabouts, car-park, upgrading some of the existing roads & intersections, and installing lighting network in various areas of Al Qusais-1 & 2. He pointed out that work in upgrading Al Safouh Roads project has reached a completion rate of 75%. It involves improvement of roads and linking them with R3 Bridge extending over the water canal of Dubai Marina, as well as R5 Bridge, linking Jumeirah Beach Residence with Dubai Marina.

H.E. the Chairman of the Board & Executive Director of the RTA commented on road construction at Muhaisna-1 & Mizher-1 Roads Network Project at a cost of Dh160m. He said that the project includes construction of and maintenance of secondary arterial roads extending 7 km, collector roads of 8 km, and local roads of 46km, roadside parking, and rehabilitation of some roads.

He added that work is progressing in constructing roads at the densely populated Muhaisna-3 & 4, which cover an area of 400 hectares. The project, which costs about Dh74m, includes completion of local roads extending 17 km, car-parks, completion of the two-way Aleppo Road, and upgrading traffic safety level within the roads network in the area of the project, as well as lighting works and other services. He explained that the RTA has recently awarded a contract for beautification and development of Al Nahdah-2 area at a cost of Dh118 million.

The Contractor started construction works in the project which includes new arterial roads extending 5 km, local roads extending 19 km, 25 new car-parks and seven new roundabouts in the area. The project also includes construction of a light signal-controlled intersection at Amman Road, linking Al Nahda-1 & 2, in addition to infrastructure works in the area of the project such as water, electricity, communication, rainwater, sewage and lighting networks.
