Cable damage in Egypt causing degradation in broadband speed
- Bahrain: Thursday, January 31 - 2008 at 14:19
- PRESS RELEASE
Batelco would like to inform customers two of their international cable providers faced problems on some cables connecting Bahrain to international Internet destinations, 30th January.
Local browsing was undisturbed.
As a result of the damage all Batelco traffic and services on this particular route will be temporarily affected. Batelco's network has links to alternative providers which will alleviate these problems to some extent. Internet services will still be available, but at a degraded speed during peak hours. To minimise the impact on services, it is recommended that customers give more priority to applications like browsing and email, which consume relatively less bandwidth than other applications such as file sharing which normally requires more bandwidth per user.
"The interruption in the service is beyond Batelco's control but repair work is already underway by the providers and it is anticipated that full services will be resumed soon," said Batelco Corporate Affairs General Manager Ahmed Al Janahi.
"We wish to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience to customers. We are working hard to restore full browsing speed and will issue updates accordingly."
"Furthermore, we appreciate our customers' cooperation and understanding while the repair work is being completed," he added.
