  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, February 03 - 2008 at 09:36
  • PRESS RELEASE

Dubai Maritime City, the world's first purpose-built maritime city and a member of the Dubai World Group of companies, has announced that more than 1000 domestic and international maritime-related companies have been registered in the Maritime City, accelerating the huge demand to be a part of the development.

As the mega project enters its third and final phase of development, businesses from across the maritime industry have registered their association in the world's largest maritime community, including management consultancy and services; retail and recreation; maritime education and research; equipment suppliers; financial institutions; lawyers; brokers; owners; ship repair and maintenance; yacht repair and maintenance companies, and others.

Amer Ali, CEO of Dubai Maritime City, said, "The eagerness of leading international maritime companies to establish a presence in Dubai Maritime City reflects the UAE's growing reputation as one of the world's most promising maritime hubs, founded on its noble and long-standing maritime heritage. As such, the maritime industry is a very important segment of the UAE's economy."

"We are keen to leverage this growing interest in our project by sponsoring and participating at many of the world's leading events and exhibitions, as it is our goal, as a maritime authority, to consolidate the regional maritime industry and establish Dubai Maritime City as a thriving business axis for the region," he added.

The announcement comes only days after Dubai Maritime City finalised the strategic plan of the Marina District; a mixed-use cluster of hotels, marinas, waterfront retail shops, restaurants and entertainment facilities, occupying more than 500,000 metres cubed. It is one of the six districts incorporated in the Maritime City, which also includes the Academic Quarter, the Industrial Precinct, the Maritime Centre, maritime company offices as well as a commerce hub.

On completion, the project will also feature the UAE's first specialised National Maritime Museum, as well as an education, training and research institute for maritime science.

"We are confident of doubling the number of businesses registered with us in the near future as we are making every effort to respond to the comprehensive needs of the global maritime community. We also offer exclusive advantages including free zone benefits, no corporate or private tax, proximity to customers and suppliers, potential for business growth in a rapidly developing environment, easy living, easy accessibility, developed port infrastructure, and a convenient time zone between eastern and western markets," Ali concluded.
