Sheikh Saud inaugurates Dental symposium

H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, opened a symposium on `Day to Day Challenges in Dental Practice'.

Organised jointly by RAK College of Dental Sciences, RAK Medical and Health Sciences University (RAK MHSU) and Dental Society of Emirates Medical Association at the Ras Al Khaimah Hotel here.

The programme, attended by around 200 delegates comprising doctors and medical staff from across UAE, deliberated on modern developments in the field of dental sciences.

Sheikh Saud in his opening address exhorted the medical community to pursue the spirit of enquiry and learning with renewed vigor and equip themselves to meet the modern day medical challenges.

"The pursuit of knowledge should not end on securing the academic degree. It is a never ending process and we can keep ourselves abreast of new developments in science only by constant exploration and learning," he added.

Sheikh Saud said that Ras Al Khaimah has taken significant steps to provide quality medical services and to become a top medical education provider by launching initiatives like RAK Medical and Health Sciences University and RAK College of Dental Sciences.

Prof. S R Prabhu, Dean, RAK College of Dental Sciences (RAK CODS), in his opening remarks said that RAK CODS has taken efforts to establish international collaboration in dental education and research. He said that the aim of the symposium was to address the common pedodontic, endodontic and prosthodontic challenges encountered in general dental practice.

Welcoming the delegates, Professor Gurumadhva Rao, Vice Chancellor of RAK MHSU, stressed the fact that the medical and dental professions in UAE have a common goal of achieving highest patient care standards and periodic exchanges of scientific knowledge through CME programmes would keep the profession up to date.

Dr. Ali bin Shaker, Undersecretary, UAE Ministry of Health, Dr. Yasser Al Nuaimi, Director of Continuing Medical Education (CME), Ministry of Health and Dr. Aisha Sultan Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of Dental Services, UAE Ministry of Health and President of Dental Society of Emirates Medical Association, spoke at the inaugural session.

Scientific papers on various challenges in dental practice were presented at the symposium by leading national and international speakers.
Professor Paul Abbott, Dean of School of Dentistry, University of Western Australia, Professor Ridwaan Omar, Vice Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, Kuwait University, Dr. Dina Samir Debaybo and Dr. Tarun Walia made presentations at the symposium.
