- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, February 03 - 2008 at 11:29
- PRESS RELEASE
Etisalat today announced that it is closely monitoring the disruption in Internet services in the UAE due to the unexpected cable cut suffered by its international service providers Flag and Sea-ME-We4.
Estimates from FLAG reveals that they expect the problem to be resolved in two weeks starting from the day of the disruption. While the Sea-ME-We4 cable is planned to be fixed on the 8th of February.
In terms of its ongoing efforts, Etisalat has undertaken activities to ensure minimal disruption to customers through multiple efforts including redirecting traffic and significantly increasing capacity on other links following the cable break. The redundant links deployed by Etisalat for such an eventuality has meant that normal Internet browsing and essential traffic will continue to work at reasonable speeds for the company's customers. Etisalat has also prioritized services to business customers to ensure that they are unaffected by this unexpected disruption.
Etisalat's comprehensive bandwidth and infrastructure has also rendered assistance to Du-the second telecom operator when the company suffered further disruption in terms of International calls due to a cut in a Flag Falcon cable within the Arabian Gulf.
The heavy investment by Etisalat in building a robust network with redundant links to major global Internet hubs in Asia, Europe, and USA, has ensured that the traffic can be re-routed, ensuring that Internet services can remain operational in the UAE.
