RTA takes part in Abu Dhabi Conference & Exhibition on Renewable Energy in Arid Regions

Marine Agency at Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) took part in the 4th Environment Conference & Exhibition focusing on Integrated Sustainable Energy Resources in Arid Regions held recently in the capital Abu Dhabi during the period 21- 23 January 2008 at Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Center.

The agency participated with a delegation consisting of researches and studies managers at the Marine Projects Department, and Eisa Al Hashemi, Senior Engineer of Marine Transport, Researches & Studies Section, at Marine Projects Department.

Commenting on the event Khaled Al Zahed, Director of RTA Marine Projects Dep't said that the conference focused on key issues related to renewable energy, exchange of expertise and review of excellent & pioneer experiments. It also provided a window of opportunities to foster relations, and acquaint ourselves with the latest development in the renewable energy industry; which will shortly appear as a new player in the field of all service and engine operations dependant on traditional energies such as diesel and petrol.

"Marine Agency benefited so much from this participation through getting in direct touch with leading companies in renewable energy industry. We have also reviewed the first-ever environment-friendly project totally dependent on renewable energy with no carbonic emissions. In addition to that we have been acquainted with the sources of renewable energy, latest technology to support environment-friendly transport modes, and workshops held at the sidelines of the Exhibition" said Al Zahed.

He pointed out that Marine Agency had conducted researches and studies to use solar energy and hosted the Swiss MW-LINE Co.; which has recently carried out some trials on Abra No. 119 as a prelude to introduce a solar-energy operation system. This will usher an era of using renewable and environment-friendly energies and pave the way for contributing to realizing the vision of the RTA of providing 'safe & smooth transport for all'. "We are also taking into consideration using electrical power and air-compressed turbines among the portfolio of our future projects that will be explored and utilized in the course of our drive to use renewable energies that are friendly to both the community & environment.
