- United Arab Emirates: Monday, February 04 - 2008 at 12:00
- PRESS RELEASE
A rainbow of month-long cultural and artistic activities at Arts Avenue, a new addition to DSF signature events have kicked-off under the sponsorship of the Dubai Cultural Council (DCC) at Al Seef Street in cooperation with the Dubai Shopping Festival Office from January 24th till February 24th.
DCC Secretary General Dr Salah Al Qasim, while visiting the activities venue, voiced his happiness over the successful launch of DSF 2008, an event which, he said, significantly contributes to promoting Dubai at the global level.
He underscored the importance of the DCC's debut participation in DSF 2008 through Arts Avenue, such cultural and artistic festivities aimed at encouraging and supporting all talented artists living in the UAE and abroad that helped create channels of dialogue and communication between them all in order to exchange skills and experience.
He stressed that the DCC has provided the participating artists with free services facilitating their participation in the activities.
"The free services provided by the DCC at Arts Avenue reflect our unwavering support for all cultural and artistic activities held in the Emirate," said Dr. Al Qasim, noting that the DCC will further market the works of the participating artists in a larger scope after the end of the month-long activities.
"We aim to encourage these talents and shed more light on their productions in a way that provides a momentum to the talent-rich cultural movement in our country."
Salim Balyouha, Arts Avenue coordinator, said the DCC has made it easy for all local and resident artists living in the UAE to participate in the activities.
"The venue takes the shape of Arabian tents that reflect our Arabic heritage to re-establish a link between the artists and Dubai Creek," he said.
The DSF has enriched the activities by adding daily carnivals and festivities to the main cultural programme, including awesome displays of fireworks in addition to hosting a number of leading world artists to perform some of their masterpieces in the open.
"The Dubai police are doing a great job to secure law and order in Al Seef Street during the month-long festivity," he said, expressing hope that the DCC's participation this year will add more strength to the DSF and effectively contribute to promoting the position of Dubai as a melting-pot of world cultures and arts.
The activities, now jointly organized by DCC and DSF in Al Seef Street, range from poetry and theatre to art workshops, including drawing contests for children.
