- PRESS RELEASE
Culture and creativity will go hand in hand on the stunning Riffa Views souq-style stand at the Riffa Views Bahrain International Garden Show 2008 (RVBIGS), as a number of local artists will showcase their talents for visitors to the increasingly popular show.
Visitors to the Riffa Views "souq" will be fascinated by the range of skills on show - carpet weaving, pottery, basket weaving, jewellery making, abaya embroidery, metal sculpting and calligraphy to name but a few. Further interactive entertainment will be provided by henna and portrait artists, while there will also be the opportunity to "discover a pearl" by opening freshly caught clamshells. This interaction with the artists is further indication of Riffa Views' commitment to Bahrain's culture and heritage, and its support for local talent.
Richard Browning, Chief Executive Officer of Riffa Views, commented: "Many of the local crafters work at the Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre, while others run independent businesses or simply follow their art as a hobby. All of these talented artists have a great passion for what they do. Riffa Views wants to give them the recognition they deserve and the opportunity to work with us to present a display that I am confident will be a very special feature of this year's RVBIGS, and one that will be of great interest to the visiting public."
He continued: "Our stand will also feature an exhibit of the unique Riffa Views sculpture, created by the amazingly talented Bahrain sculptor Ali Al Mahmeed. Not only will visitors be able to see this magnificent piece of art on display during the show, they will also be able to track its creation through a photographic record of its conception, design and sculpture. Ali's completed masterpiece will be a focal point for our development and it will grace the entrance to Riffa Views Signature Estates."
The initiated fusion of local art and craft has further support from Shaikha Wafa Al Khalifa, Head of the Al Jasra Handicraft Centre, who has worked closely with Riffa Views to ensure the participation of such a superb mix of skilled artisans.
One of the artists delighted to be involved in the project is Mariam Wadiee, who designs intricately embroidered abayas for a select clientele. She said: "When I was asked to take part in the exhibition, I had absolutely no hesitation. The whole idea of bringing our work to the public in such a fun and novel way appeals to me, as not only will I have the chance to share my designs with a whole new audience, but I will also have the privilege to share the experience with such a talented group of artisans."
Not only will the public be able to see these talented individuals at work in their "souq shops", they will be able to learn about the arts and crafts on display through a number of translators and guides who will be on hand to explain more about the artists and their work. Visitors will be able to browse through, and if the fancy takes them, buy any of the items on display or those being created before their very eyes.
