'We are delighted and highly appreciative of the fact that the DSF Office has granted us this official status,' said DTFR Chairperson, Judy Rickatson. 'It will certainly boost awareness of and participation in the Run which takes place on Friday 15th February 2008 at Mamzar Park.'
'Last year was our first time at Al Mamzar and it proved to be a hugely popular venue drawing participants from several Emirates. This in turn boosted the run and it now enjoys the status of being the second biggest Terry Fox Run in the world by participation, and the third biggest in terms of revenue,' she adds.
The 2007 Dubai Terry Fox Run drew an estimated 10,500 participants. More significantly, $158,000 was raised for cancer research,
Yousif Mubarak, DSF Events, Operations, and Logistics Director said he was delighted that the Dubai Terry Fox Run was under the umbrella of DSF.
'The DSF has grown to become a world leading attraction we are delighted to use this status and appeal to promote this wonderful charity event - and the cause to which it is dedicated,' he said. 'I encourage as many people as possible to lend their support and join the fun runners in this non-competitive run,' he said. 'The more the people who take part, the more money can be raised.
Participants can walk or run the maximum 8.4km distance, which accommodates wheelchairs, strollers, bicycles and rollerblades, or they can simply go as far as they like.
'There is no minimum registration fee charged to participate in the event. Simply show up on run day and complete a donation form. School and corporate participation is welcome. Simply go to www.dubaiterryfoxrun.com for more information' added Rickatson.
