  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, January 20 - 2008 at 13:55
  • PRESS RELEASE

As part of the innovative efforts of the DSF Office to enhance entertainment for visitors this year, a new concept titled Weekend Packages is being introduced during DSF 2008.

Aimed at the increasing number of visitors during the weekends, the novel idea will include a variety of events packed into the three days of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Yousif Mubarak, DSF Events, Operations, and Logistics Director said,

"Weekend Packages was devised after research and industry inputs showed that a majority of DSF visitors from the region came to Dubai during the weekends. Accordingly, we've designed the Weekend Packages to suit every age category and enable all weekend visitors to make the most of DSF 2008."

The Weekend Packages includes world-class events like the Dubai Carnivals, Fireworks Festival, and Weekend Shows. Each of these is a major attraction by itself and will add to the other entertainment activities during DSF 2008.

Dubai Carnival

Based on the idea of floats, Dubai Carnivals will feature four platforms, each with a different theme. The themes include Russian, Arabic, Japanese, and Chinese. Different locations in Dubai like the Muraggabat Street, Al Seef Street, Creek Park, the Dubai Marina, Uptown Mirdiff, Arabian Ranches, Global Village, and even Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City, and Knowledge Village will play host to the Carnivals thus making it possible for visitors anywhere in Dubai to view them.

Performers for the Carnival will also include the famed Tanourah dancers, African artists, Indian folk groups, stilt walkers, clown, jugglers, and a host of Turkish, Serbian, and Senegalese entertainers.

Fireworks Festival

A highlight during every edition of DSF, the fireworks display will be transformed into a festival of its own with dazzling displays during the weekends. The highlight of the fireworks display will be based beside Al Seef Street at the Dubai Creek where a floating barge will launch around 150 fireworks per minute, compared to the normal 100. Visitors on either side of the Creek will be able to watch a spectacular display of colour, light, and sound.

Weekend Shows

Featuring a variety of cultural performances from around the world, Weekend Shows features international performers in three exciting shows from Feb 7th to 9th, 14th to 16th, and 21st to 23rd.

The first among the shows is the Journey Show. Consisting of 36 performers from two continents, the Journey will showcase some riveting cultural presentations. Visitors can watch the Journey at the Creek Park from Feb 7 to 9 at 7:45pm.

The groups for the performance include the 'White Cockatoo' (Australian Aborigines), 'Amazones African Master Women Drummers' (Guinea Africa), 'Indlamu Performers Zulus (South Africa), and the 'Pacific Cultural Group' (Cook Islands and New Zealand). The opening shows will portray a fusion of cultures in a unique and mesmeric production of 45 minutes, with a central theme of unification.
