Etisalat delegation visits Tanzania

A delegation from Etisalat headed by Mohammed Hassan Omran, Chairman of Etisalat, visited Tanzania recently during which the delegation met with His Excellency, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, the President of Tanzania and His Excellency Amani Karume, the President of Zanzibar.

The meeting was held to apprise the Tanzanian President and his staff on 'Zantel', a subsidiary of Etisalat in Tanzania in which Etisalat owns a 51 percent stake. During the meeting, the Tanzanian president expressed his admiration at the quality of services being offered by Zantel.

The Etisalat delegation also took the opportunity to demonstrate the "Village Phone" service that uses GSM networks to make telecommunications accessible and affordable to all by connecting subscribers mainly comprising of villagers from far-flung regions in Tanzania. This service is highly valued in Tanzanian and Etisalat will eventually roll-out these services across the country. The delegation also showcased many of Etisalat's new services that have been introduced to keep citizens connected within the communities where it is involved.

On the occasion, Mohammed Hassan Omran, said, "This visit is in line with Etisalat's strategy to effectively oversee its global investments while increasing benefits to its subscribers across the countries it operates in. Furthermore, Etisalat is committed to its workforce and to meeting its staff on a regular basis to motivate them and enhance productivity."

While in Tanzania, the delegation also received an update on the new Zantel brand which now includes a strap-line signifying Zantel's endorsement as a member of the Etisalat family. During the meeting, Etisalat officials discussed opportunities to expand its services across the nation through Thuraya Satellite Company, in which Etisalat owns a 27% take.

Currently operating in 16 different countries around Asia and Africa, Etisalat's investments total Dhs36bn. The company provides services to more than 51m customers.
