An aviation training revolution from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise University
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, January 30 - 2008 at 12:46
- PRESS RELEASE
The Dubai Aerospace Enterprise University (DAE University) plans to dramatically alter the way the aviation industry views how pilots and technical personnel are qualified for employment.
Offering one of the most comprehensive aviation and flight training programmes, with a mix of technology and innovative techniques, the academy and college will raise the bar for civil aviation education worldwide.
New curricula being developed by DAE Flight Academy and DAE College in key fields - flight, aeroengines/airframe maintenance, air traffic control and meteorology - will confidently meet the stringent licensing standards of national and international aviation regulatory bodies such as the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the UAE, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). But the program design and the approach - as well as the curricula - will be quite innovative.
"In many ways, traditional flight and technical training have changed little in over 40 years. With its new approaches and technologies, DAE University is substantially renewing these often dated models of training and education, and doing so in ways relevant to emerging global airline industry needs in the region," said Dr. George H. Ebbs, President and CEO of DAE University. "To meet these needs, we will focus on innovative ways to improve the learning experience, cut the time it takes to complete the training, and reduce the total cost while providing a graduate more capable of contributing to the success of their employer virtually from the first day of work."
Speaking of the licensed professional programmes to be offered through DAE College, Dr. Raymond Thompson, Dean of the College of Aero and Astro Sciences, explained: "These innovative curricula make extensive use of simulation technologies
and synthetic learning, using computer-based technologies and software. This approach
will change the way we train pilots, aircraft engineers and other licensed technical
professionals."
DAE Flight Academy and DAE College's faculty have embraced the power of simulation technology by "synthesizing" what is currently being used in the industry and making it electronically available to their students. The use of simulation coupled with a shift from the traditional classroom environment, to an immersion program that mirrors the world of work - will radically reduce the time and the cost required for transforming an entry-level student into a productive professional.
"We use a proven curriculum that takes fresh flight students to dual type-rated, frozen Airline Transport Pilot Licensed pilots in half the time required via traditional training and at half the cost," noted William Roe, Director of the Flight Academy.
The DAE University approach is a generation beyond the conventional experiences for pilots, who still go through individualized training focused on general aviation, and for technicians, who are often still apprenticed only in the dated environment of reciprocating engines and the all-metal airframes of general aviation.
