Commenting on the successful journey of OOEHS over the last 40 years, Shobhana Verghese, Executive Principal said parental trust, dedication of teachers and the GEMS commitment to excellence have always been at the core of the school's reputation and strength.
'True to its name, Our Own English High School has always fostered a sense of belonging among its students, parents and teachers. It is a continuing tradition of mutual trust nurtured by excellence, values and shared determination to be the best,' added Verghese.
Starting as a modest school of 27 students and three teachers in the Al Bastakiya area of Dubai in 1968, Our Own English High School has grown to include seven campuses across the UAE serving students of different nationalities. The school currently provides world class education to 10,560 students from kindergarten to Year 12 in its two locations in Dubai including the Al Warqa campus.
Since inception, OOEHS Dubai has followed the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education, India) curriculum and the school consistently maintains results well above the national average. In sports and other extra curricular activities also OOEHS students follow a tradition of superior skills and accomplishments.
Sunny Varkey, Founder and Chairman of GEMS said that the success and broad appeal of OOEHS Dubai as a community school is what encouraged GEMS to replicate this model all over the UAE.
'Our Own English High School Dubai during its growth has contributed immensely to grooming responsible, industrious, intelligent and compassionate citizens who now live in different corners of the world, enriching their communities. This school is an epitome of the GEMS ethos of World Citizenship, Universal Values, Forward Thinking and Leadership,'
said Mr Varkey.
Teachers and other staff who have made outstanding contributions to the school over a long period were honoured at the anniversary celebrations. The school has also announced plans to form an alumni forum to bring together its old students.
