Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation to Help restore Emirates Writers' Union RAK Branch

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation today announced it will help restore the Ras Al Khaimah branch of the Emirates Writers' Union that was gutted by fire late last year.
Harib Al Dhaheri, Chairman of Emirates Writers' Union, hailed His Highness Sheikh Mohammed's gesture and thanked the Foundation for its expression of solidarity towards the community of intellectuals. He also praised the Foundation's efforts to promote knowledge and culture not only in the UAE but across the region.
Yasser Harib, Vice President for Culture, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, said: "His Highness Sheikh Mohammed has always endeavoured to provide an enabling environment that facilitates creativity and innovation. The Foundation is delighted to join hands with the Emirates Writers' Union to reopen the Ras Al Khaimah branch and help restore its role as a platform for knowledge creation.
"The support of the country's leadership is vital to ensuring a healthy cultural environment. The Foundation is eager to be involved in fostering such an environment as a model throughout the region. Reversing the decline in Arab intellectual capital is one of the Foundation's key objectives and we consider the Writers' Union a strategic partner in this mission."
Promoting culture as one of its key components, the Foundation has launched a number of strategic programmes including 'Oktub', a grants programme to encourage and nurture young gifted writers across the Arab world. Strategic objectives of the Foundations include stimulating illustrious work that reflects the region's rich cultural heritage.
Launched with an endowment of US$10 billion, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation aims to promote the regional standard of intellectual excellence. The Foundation supports a wide range of initiatives to boost the knowledge capital of the region, from funding research institutions and youth leadership programmes to providing scholarships and research grants.
