Under the agreement, signed by Mr. Hamad Al Hashemi, Managing Director, TechnoPark and Mr. Koussai Quteishat, Director, MEDRC, the two parties will work together towards the technical development of all aspects related to desalination and other treatments with relevant processes including, but not limited to, advancements in technologies and human capacity development.

Both parties will pursue research in areas related to desalination and similar technologies and work together on conducting a training needs analysis for the corporate desalination sector in the UAE in order to determine the starting point of training programmes. The agreement will significantly enhance desalination technology transfer programmes and activities, in the UAE.

After signing the MoU, Mr. Al Hashemi said:

"Our core competencies are to facilitate research and innovation in Dubai by devising cutting-edge solutions and advancements in technologies and human capacity development. The economy of the Middle East is inextricably tied to desalination of sea water and brackish ground water. Desalination will have to play an increasing role in the augmentation of supply and we will work with MEDRC to improve desalination research and technology development."

Mr. Koussai Quteishat stated: "We look forward to working closely with TechnoPark. As water resources in the region are already under stress and future population and economic growth will require an increase in supply, this agreement aims to bring together scientists, engineers, water policy-makers and water system operators in the Middle East/North Africa region to work on areas of research that will reduce the cost of desalination and improve on current technologies."

MEDRC, The Middle East Desalination Research Centre (MEDRC), is mandated to conduct, facilitate, promote, co-ordinate and support basic and applied research in water Desalination technology and supporting fields and to raise the standard of living in the Middle East and elsewhere by cost reduction and quality improvement in the technical processes of water desalination.
