Empower will also highlight the region's increasing focus on district cooling and some of the globally recognised projects that utilize the technology.

Titled 'Clean Energy, Sustainable Campus', the conference will be held from 11-15 February, and is organised by the International District Energy Association (IDEA) and hosted by the world renowned Harvard University.

The conference will engage students and leading international industry players in an interactive dialogue on a wide range of key issues including the management of campus carbon footprint and the use of physical plant assets as a financial hedge, as well as unlocking the value of district energy.

Ahmed Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, said: 'Our participation in this global event demonstrates our commitment to energy conservation and the green initiatives announced by Dubai recently, especially the directive on green building.
'We seek to share our experience and challenges with worldwide industry leaders and gain an insight into latest technologies and trends in sustainable solutions.'

Delegates to the conference will also have a chance to view the newly-constructed district cooling facility at an underground laboratory in Harvard University, as an innovative solution to managing space and capacity requirements. In addition, delegates will visit a large steam heating plant undergoing upgrading work as well as an office under renovation in accordance with LEED Platinum standards.

Empower handles projects for several prominent clusters including the Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC), Dubai Healthcare City, City of Arabia and Business Bay. It also provides 60,000 refrigeration tonnes (RT) to Jumeirah Beach Residence, the impressive 22 million square feet development spanning 1.7km, featuring 36 residential towers, four hotel towers and beach clubs.

EMPOWER
Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) is a joint venture between Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone (TECOM) Investments and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), created to provide energy-efficient district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments. Empower plans to diversify into other energy efficiency and conservation services. Empower's district cooling systems (DCS) provide effective and efficient eans of air conditioning. Water is cooled in central plants and distributed through a network of piping systems to individual customer buildings. DCS achieves economies of scale by using centralised plants instead of individual cooling units in each building. The centralised system results in reduced capital and operating costs, thus reducing air-conditioning set-up and energy costs per building. Empower is set to become one of the largest district cooling companies in the region. For more information please visit: www.empower.ae
