The event is considered a great day out for the whole family and was attended by visitors from Dubai and all the other emirates.
Police dogs thrilled spectators with fantastic shows where they displayed their skills and bravery in performing different tasks such as searching for drugs, weapons and explosives, as well as finding people missing as a result of natural disasters.
Performances by both Abu Dhabi and Dubai police dogs were among the main attractions of the event.
Other activities enthused the attendants, along with the fancy-dress competition, the lure course, and the agility course demonstrations, followed by presentation of prizes.
With well over 1,000 dogs and some fancy felines on show - visitors saw an enthralling cross-section of what makes pets so special. The show included the K9 display and K9 of the year presentation, as well as prizes for the best puppy on show, best sixlegs, dog most like owner, waggiest tail, and best fancy dressed dog.
Winners included Marley in the crossbreed category, Monty in the Child handler category (age 9 onwards) and Bahea (age 5 to 9), in addition to many other winners within the different categories at the event.
The day's proceedings will be donated to K9 Friends and Feline Friends, charities that provide good homes for abandoned animals, ensuring their wellbeing and regularly reuniting lost pets with their owners.
'This year again the Pedigree and Whiskas Pet Show proved to be a big success with tens of thousands of people attending a day full of fun and happiness where they could learn more about the joys of animal companionship and responsible pet ownership,' said Maya Theodory, marketing manager of the show's sponsors.
'Pedigree & Whiskas is more than just a pet food company where we care about the well being of pets. Everything we do is based on research compiled over 60 years at Waltham, our state of the art science center, where we have developed a deep understanding of the needs of all pets.
'For 20 years now, the show has been successfully focusing on communicating the benefits of pets in the community, and the 2008 event was no exception.'
