RAKFTZ organizes stress management workshop

Managing standards for work-related stress was the theme of a two-day training course the Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone (RAK FTZ) organized for the its employees.

Oussama El Omarim, the CEO of the RAK FTZ said the course aimed at educating and raising awareness of work stress. "The course was designed to help workers understand the causes of stress at work, identify and solve the problems facing them on their daily work basis," he said.

"Growth has picked up at the RAK FTZ that is highly emerging and currently witnesses heavy demand," he said. "To achieve even better success, the RAK FTZ pays special attention to its workers' welfare and invests in training them on ways to tackle work stress to enable them assume their responsibilities in the best possible way," he added.

The RAK FTZ has put in place expanding policies and plans, and the zone is currently attracting thousands of companies from around the world to invest in Ras Al Khaimah, said El Omari, adding that minimizing the work stress ends up a priority to enhance the performance of the workers.

El Omari stressed that the RAK FTZ is keen to provide its workers with world-class working environment, minimize the impact of the work-related stress on their performance and improve the zone's business. "Identifying and addressing the causes of work-related stress is a top priority for the RAK FTZ which is a competitive organization," he added.

Dr. Tala'at Matar, a Consultant Psychiatrist at the Saif bin Ghobash Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah, presented the course.

Dr. Matar said excessive work pressure can lead to stress and that would undermine performance. He highlighted the importance of creating some kind of balance and setting up boundaries between the work life and home life for the worker.

"Stress prevention policies are extremely important for both the workers and their organizations," he said. "Workers are entitled to physical and psychological well being to avoid total exhaustion and occupational ill health that will negatively affect the fulfillment of the workers' duties," he added.
Dr. Matar stressed that the improvement of the staff well-being, and the staff care are fundamental tools to improve performance and land the organizations on higher grounds.
