Al Maktoum Institute of Scotland celebrates the graduation of 25 students from the UAE & Qatar

25 students from Zayed University, Abu Dhabi University and Qatar University graduated from a three week academic training program organized by Al Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies in Scotland held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry.

The program which was organized by Zayed University in collaboration with Al Maktoum Institute prepared the students in contemporary global issues of multiculturalism and leadership, in addition to introducing the vital issues of Islamic teachings in order to enhance the students awareness and understanding giving them an objective view on cultural and academic issues particularly those related to the Middle East.

"Although the students have worked very hard during the short period of the multiculturalism and leadership program as part of their degree studies learning the basics that will help them have a contemporary view on current issues; there is still much more work ahead of them," said Mirza Al Sayegh, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Scotland based Al Maktoum Institute.

He went on to praise the great ability the students have shown in comprehending diverse subjects throughout the course of the program and learning new skills over a short period of time.

He spoke during the graduation ceremony which was held in Dundee, Scotland and attended by H.E Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim Vice President Of Zayed University, H.E Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al- Dhaheri, Chairman of the Executive Board Of Governors Abu Dhabi University, Professor Malory Nye Acting Principal Of Al Maktoum Institute and Masoud M. Saleh Manager Exhibition & Events in Dubai Airports in addition to a number of students and leading academics from Aberdeen University.

The program ceremony included a short presentation given by the party of 25 students from UAE and Qatar concluding what they have learned during their three week educational visit to Scotland.

The Acting Principal at the Institute said: "This year's Academic Training Program was built on the foundation of the work we've been undertaking at Al -Maktoum Institute over the past five years with young Emirati Women regarded as potential leaders in their society, and we certainly hope to see more of them in the future."

Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim Vice President of Zayed University expressed his pride regarding the progress the 15 female students from Zayed University have shown during the program, he added that the University was very keen on providing support for the annual program from it's first year, and encouraging students to participate as part of their degree course in the different activities of the program which have been tailored to advance their overall learning and understanding of other cultures. He went on to express his hope that this experience will be an incentive for other students to work harder and achieve better grades in order to participate in this program.

"This annual academic program is a unique initiative from Al Maktoum Institute as it aims to build effective bridges of cultural and educational communication between the UAE and Scotland," said Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al- Dhaheri, Chairman of the Executive Board Of Governors Abu Dhabi University.

He added that although this was the first time for Abu Dhabi University students to participate in the program, it will be an eye-opening experience which will encourage a greater number of students to participate next year.
