RTA explores cooperation with the American National Safety Council, in conjunction with Swede Institute

Engineer Badr Mattar Al Siri, Director of Traffic Dep't at RTA Traffic & Roads Agency, received a delegation headed by John Kennedy, Director of Leadership Programs, American National Safety Council, and Alaa Subhi, Director of Swede Institute in Dubai.

The meeting was held in the presence of engineer Khalfan Al Barwani, Manager of Traffic Safety Section, and Al Mutassim Billah Mohammed, Manager of Traffic Awareness Section, Traffic Dep't.

The meeting explored the possibility of benefiting from the programs of the National Safety Council in delivering awareness programs & lectures on safety at RTA road sites, and formulating training programs for the benefit of road users and staff engaged in the filed of construction & roads.

During the meeting the American delegation revealed that traffic statistics and studies show an increase in the rate of traffic accidents at road construction sites, and that workers and drivers passing across those sites are liable to danger.

John Kennedy reviewed development issues, key projects and achievements made by the National Safety Council. He also explained the services rendered by the Council in the field of training, consultancy, preparing lectures, qualifying drivers, and averting traffic accidents.

The Director of Traffic Dep't reviewed efforts of the Department in highlighting the awareness of anticipated hazards at construction sites of roads & bridges in Dubai. He pointed out that Traffic Awareness Section will launch, at the beginning of every month, a campaign to enlighten drivers of traffic accidents risks that take place in or nearby road construction sites as a result of reckless driving and inattention to traffic signs and directions. He called for printing 100 thousand brochures in Arabic and English to be distributed during the campaign.
