The annual event serves as a platform for regional and international dialogue on sustainable development issues.

Held under the patronage of the Jordanian Ministry of Environment and in association with the Greater Amman Municipality and the Amman Chamber of Commerce, the event is a significant step towards limiting the excessive consumption of non-renewable resources and curbing the amount of polluting byproducts.

"The Middle East Recycling, Water & Environmental Management Exhibition is a vital first step towards protecting the environment through sustainable development initiatives. It sheds light on the different parties involved and provides solutions to initiate a launching pad for corporate social responsibility policies focused on recycling and environment-friendly policies, which will not only benefit Jordan but also the entire region,"

said His Excellency Dr Khalid Al Irani, Minister of Environment.

He added: "Waste management is truly a global challenge, and it is important to find alternative recycling solutions that will enable the conversion of waste to economically viable assets. The active involvement of corporates like Emaar International Jordan will complement the governmental efforts to further enhance the awareness of waste management and recycling, and achieve tangible results."

Mr Steve McCartt, General Manager, Emaar International Jordan, said: "Emaar is committed to serving the communities we serve in by supporting initiatives that contribute to the overall well-being of the society. We work hand-in-hand with the Jordanian Ministry of Environment and other organisations that highlight the importance of sustainable practices. The recycling and sustainable development practices, promoted by the exhibition, will have a long-lasting beneficial impact for Jordan."

Organised by MEEF, the expo provides a detailed overview on the issues relating to environmental management and recycling. Featuring several training sessions, workshops, success stories and working papers, it will discuss sustainable development options and empower developmental sectors to manage their waste and adopt recycling measures in tune with the latest trends. Over 90 participants from 40 countries will present their views on waste management and recycling, including renewable energy sources.

Participants at the event include the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company, the Natural Resources Authority, the Arab Potash Company, USAID, European Tyre Recycling Organization (ETRA), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Italian Cooperation Organization and The Royal Academy of Maritime Studies, among others. Several international environmental organizations, companies, engineering consultants, Jordanian and International universities, researchers and students will also participate.

Emaar International Jordan is developing the JD354m (Dhs1.84bn, $500m) Samarah Dead Sea Resort owned by The Dead Sea Touristic and Real Estate Company, a venture of Emaar Properties PJSC and a group of regional and Jordanian investors. The project is envisaged as an environment-friendly initiative and will implement recycling and sustainable development practices.
