- PRESS RELEASE
On 21 February 2008, The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority will be hosting and facilitating a meeting between telecom operators and the consumers and business users' advisory groups and their guests on issues of concern to consumers.
Aiming to encourage consumer protection and awareness, the groups will meet with Batelco, Mena Telecom and Zain in the first of a series of meetings with the telecom operators. Each telecom operator was invited by the consumer advisory groups to deliver a presentation on the measures applied for ensuring consumer protection, how tariff transparency is achieved, complaints handling, views on number portability and processes for developing business solutions and meeting consumer needs.
This meeting is considered to be one of the methods for implementing the open-dialogue policy between consumer representative groups and operators, as such a series of meetings will be conducted with other operators. The aim behind this activity is to assist the advisory groups to better understand the offers of the operators, in order to assist in their work of providing feedback to both TRA and operators.
TRA General Director Mr. Alan Horne praised the advisory groups for this initiative and said "I am confident that this meeting will assist the advisory groups in their important work of providing constructive feedback to our proposed regulations and actions."
For the purpose of creating wider awareness, the advisory groups have invited today any member of the public to come along to this meeting with the operators and listen to their presentation.
