Shaikh Faisal Bin Hamad Al Khalifa Memorial Trophy raises over BD50,000 for charity

The 2nd annual Shaikh Faisal Memorial Trophy charity golf tournament in aid of Bahrain Mobility International took place last weekend on His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's golf course in Safriya.

The event was a resounding success, raising in excess of BD50,000 in sponsorship alone, with Riffa Views being the title sponsor.

The event, which was took place over three days was played in a Team Betterball Stableford format, with teams of four being spilt into two pairs, who then combined their scores at the end of play.

The team event was won by Inchcape Shipping, comprising Brandon Smith, Clinton Evans, Joseph Femino and Madhu Gopinath with a team score of 88 points.

Runners up were Project System Group 1 team with 87 points, comprising Jim Porter, Gino Gizzi, Najib Khan and Marco Cantoni. Third place went to Peter Mutti, Mohamed Ali, Sassan Sarkoob and Mohamed Al Sayed, who represented ICAP2 and scored 85 points.

A Mini Cooper Cabrio was up for grabs on the 2nd hole as a Hole in One prize, sponsored jointly by Euro Motors and AXA Insurance. Unfortunately, no players achieved this, although several came close.

Gulf Air sponsored a daily Nearest the Pin Prize on the 6th Hole, which was won by Hussain Salem on day one, Abdulla Sultan on day two and Arun Varma on day three. Each of the winners received an invitation to fly a Boeing 767 on the Gulf Air Training Flight Simulator.

A further BD1850 was raised by virtue of a par three shootout contest on the 7th hole, sponsored by Project System Group. Players had the opportunity to make a charity donation which gave them a chance to try to hit the green with their tee shot. Successful entrants' names were put into a hat to win golf prizes sponsored by Project System Group. Winners of this competition were Rob Lane, Abdul Fakro, Tony James, Barry Hobday and Des Prunty.

"This year's tournament was a fantastic success," said Dreena Rogers, liaison officer for Bahrain Mobility International. "We are extremely grateful to the organisers, all the sponsors and the competitors for their fantastic support. With the proceeds, we aim to build a complete recreational facility at our premises in Isa Town as well as new mobility equipment for our members."
