Appointment of Executive Chef at Banyan Tree Desert Spa and Resort, Al Areen

Mr. Josef Umenberger was appointed Executive Chef of Banyan Tree Desert Spa and Resort, Al Areen.

An Austrian national, Mr Umenberger joined the resort on 20 January 2008 from Royal Hayat Hospital Kuwait, where he held the position of Executive Chef As part of the pre-opening team for Royal Hayat Hospital Kuwait, which is one of the properties managed by Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts, he has successfully been involved in the set up and implementation of the standards and policies for the Culinary Division.

Mr Umenberger started his career in hospitality industry back in Austria, following which he relocated and gained valuable experience in Bahamas, the United States of America, Germany, Mexico, Azerbaijan, Venezuela, United Arab Emirates, Philippines and Kuwait. Prior to joining Banyan Tree, Mr Umenberger has worked in several five-star hotel groups such as JW Marriott, Hyatt and Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.

In his new role, Mr Umenberger will be in charge of the overall operation and administration of the Culinary Team at Banyan Tree Desert Spa and Resort, Al Areen. With over 26 years experience as a chef, of which he spent over five years as Executive Chef, Mr Umenberger has acquired extensive knowledge and skills to competently lead the kitchen team and further contribute to the success of the resort.

Banyan Tree Desert Spa and Resort, Al Areen opened its doors in April 2007 boasting the only all-villa private pool resort in the Middle East, the region's largest spa and hydrotherapy area, three international restaurants, a complete body wellness centre and the award-winning Banyan Tree Gallery.
